WONDER: Part 1

WELCOME
to Ms. Gould's 7th grade Language Arts Tutorial Blog.

This site is for you to come to and is where you will find
everything you need for your 7th grade LA Tutorial.

For our next unit, we are going to be reading and studying the fantastic new novel, WONDER by R.J. Palacio.

We shall read it together in class and you shall be given sections to read at home.

LESSON PLANS

* REMEMBER: Begin every day with a NEW PAGE,
and make sure the date is at the top right hand corner*

Predictions and Pre-Reading

  • In your notebook, write a paragraph: predicting what you think is going to happen in the book.
Remember, paragraphs have between 2-5 sentences. They have a beginning, a middle and an end. Use proper punctuation and check your spelling.

Example: I predict that Wonder is going to be an interesting story about a boy who has something wrong with him. I think the story will tell the reader all about what the boy is living with and how he deals with it at school and with his friends. I also predict that the story will be sad and contain some drama because sometimes kids can be mean to kids who are different, and because he has something wrong with him, he might be sick. If he is dealing with being bullied or if he is sick, I think it could be a very sad story.

Sentence starter suggestions:

From seeing the short trailer about Wonder, I predict that _______________________ will happen.

OR

In Wonder, written by R.J. Palacio, I predict that ______________________ is going to happen.

_________________________________________________________________________________

  • In your notebook, on a new line, write: What Is A Precept?
  • Look up the definition and go to: http://www.brainyquote.com/
  • Find three inspiring quotations (precepts) and write them in your notebook.
For example: Love All, Trust Few, Do Wrong to No One. William Shakespeare
Beneath each one, write ONE SENTENCE explaining what the precept means.

For example: Be kind to everyone, and be careful who you trust. Don't ever harm or be mean to anyone.

  • Visit Mr. W Reads Website. Make a list in your notebook of the nine (9) different objects he has pictures from pages 1-26.

READ PAGES 1-26
